The building on Phidiou Street in the center of Athens was originally constructed in 1836 as the residence of the Austrian ambassador Prokesch von Osten and subsequently housed other well-known families, including the Tositsa, A. Schliemann, and Mela families.

Later, it became the home of the famous Greek Conservatory, with a history intertwined with renowned music personalities such as Maria Callas and Nana Mouskouri. This building stands as one of the few and most important examples of grand bourgeois residences from the Othonian period that still exist in Athens..

The restoration process was approached with archaeological precision, reflecting the building's significant archaeological and historical value.

The restoration study focused on preserving the particular architectural and morphological elements of the monument, while ensuring that any new functions introduced would not disturb the building's architectural character.

The intended cultural uses were selected to align with its historical significance and to honor its original layout.

Additionally, the restoration aimed to make the monument visitor-friendly, functional, and accessible to people with disabilities.
