RESTORATION OF ANCIENT MESSENE STADIUM

Ancient Messene’s Gymnasium  is the better preserved and extensively restored Hellenistic complex in Greece. This study covered the entire area of the Gymnasium, meaning monument and scattered material were documented and classified  so as to return to their initial form and place. The restoration work was based on this detailed study following the ancient methods. During works, a truck with crane helped the execution of the work on time leaving the monument and the area  peaceful without haunting the archaeological site.
The monument is now the venue for cultural activities consisting a remarkable landmark of the region.
