​In the magnificent remote archaeological site of Karthaia, the peripteral Doric temple of "Athena" has been restored. The reconstruction is allowing the visitor, even the connoisseur, to realize the architectural form of the archaic temple in the scenery. Reconstruction makes use only of new material so as to leave the valuable but little and poor ancient remnants for protection and future study. New material has also been used for the protection of the remaining and so meticulously constructed inner side of sekos walls.

A partial reconstruction of the SE corner, based on our study of the monument is made of new material enhancing the presentation of the architectural form of the monument.

 

The detailed examination of existing  drums and the fragment of the capital offered precious information for the design of the columns. It has been discovered that one drum was misplaced as if it was first while it was the third drum of an existing column. This remark helped understand the design of the column. The study for the restoration of the Propylon of the sanctuary gave precious information for the material of this building. For the first time columns and stones from the stylobate have been detected and identified, belonging to this ancient construction.
